I completely lose what I was saying mid-sentence, in a way I cannot recover from

Mid-sentence thought loss is caused by working memory displacement. The phonological loop can hold a limited amount of information. When a new thought interrupts the encoding of the sentence in progress, the original content is simply overwritten. The harder you try to recall it, the more you activate interference.
