Most casinos have no clocks and no windows — it's a deliberate psychological design choice
Casino design is a well-studied field of environmental psychology. The absence of clocks, windows, and natural light removes all time cues from gamblers, making it difficult to gauge how long they've been playing. Carpets are deliberately garish (to keep eyes up, not down), chairs are padded (to encourage sitting longer), and pathways loop to bring gamblers past more machines. The ATMs are strategically placed far from exits. Every element is designed to remove friction between a person and continued gambling.
Most people are vaguely aware that casinos 'manipulate' behaviour. But seeing the complete map of how every environmental feature — floor carpet, lighting, temperature, sound, architecture — is deliberately engineered to override rational self-regulation makes the total scope of it feel alarming.
