Astronomers estimate there are approximately 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe, each containing on average 100 billion stars — giving a total of roughly 2×10²³ (200 sextillion) stars. Geologists estimate there are about 7.5×10¹⁸ (7.5 quintillion) grains of sand on all of Earth's beaches and deserts combined. The number of stars exceeds the number of sand grains by a factor of about 10,000.
