I automatically calculate someone's age when I see their birth year, even when it is irrelevant

Age calculation is a social orientation reflex — humans are deeply wired to assess relative social position, and age is one of the primary markers. Knowing whether someone is older or younger activates different social scripts and expectations. The calculation happens before conscious thought can redirect it.
