Woolly mammoths were still alive when the Great Pyramid was being built
🤷 This changes nothingFact Battle
When most people think of woolly mammoths, they think of ice-age cave paintings and prehistoric times. But a small population of dwarf woolly mammoths survived on Wrangel Island in the Arctic until about 1650 BCE — centuries after the Great Pyramid of Giza was completed in 2560 BCE. The Egyptians were writing hieroglyphics, building monuments, and trading with other civilizations while woolly mammoths still walked the Earth.
Why this is surprising
The term 'prehistoric' makes mammoths feel impossibly ancient, but they coexisted with ancient civilization.
