Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire
🤷 This changes nothingFact Battle
Teaching began at Oxford University in 1096 CE. The Aztec Empire was founded in 1428 CE — more than 300 years later. Oxford was already a well-established institution with students, faculty, and buildings when the Aztecs were founding their empire. When Hernán Cortés arrived in Mexico in 1519, Oxford was already over 400 years old.
Why this is surprising
We tend to think of European universities and Mesoamerican civilizations as existing in different historical eras, when actually they overlapped significantly.
